When I hear word religion, Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Jainism are the names that comes across my mind. When we talk about these religions we find many characteristics which are same and many which are different. I am a Hindu but i am not against any particular religion. Every religion has followers and if I say anything against anything against any particular religion then it is disrespectful to not only that religion but also to all those people who have faith in that religion.

Religion has brought many positive things. One of those things is the culture. Every religion has it own ways to do prayers and ways to carry religious practices. Religions have defined different cultures in this world as well. Marriages are performed differently in every religion and we see enjoy different ways these ceremonies are conducted. Religion brings people togetherness as well. As a hindu/sikh/muslim when someone goes to USA or Canada or England, we find many people of same cultures in their respective temples. No one feels alone. Religions also bring faith in times of troubles and hardship as we have someone who is above all who will help us out in hard times. Religions also brings social control by adding the concept of hell and heaven, karmas etc. Bad people will be punished for their sins and good people will be rewarded.

Religious Differences

Its not only the practices which are different for religions but their basic ideology/belief system is quite different as well.

Abrahimic religion talks about one god but asian religion talks about one god who has. many forms. Hinduism keeps talking about many religious gods on the basis of their powers like brahma, vishnu, shivji, sun god, water god etc just like in greek mythology where we have zues, posedion, hades, apollo etc. Islam says we can’t know the form of god so we can’t give god any representation.

In Hinduism we talk about avatars and in Christianity we talk about prophets. They all had supernatural powers but we don’t find same names in different religions. The mythological stories showing their powers are totally different from one religion to another. In most of asian religions we find the concept of Rebirth and our aim as human being should be to get out this cycle of rebirths. However, the Abrahamic religions don’t believe in rebirth. Islam believes in judgement day called Qyamat and after death everyone has to wait in their respective coffins and wait for the final day. Christianity believes in purgatory. Everyone goes to either hell or heaven in accordance with their actions in human life.

When we talk about earth, sun, moon, planets we all have same concepts same theories even when there are different sunsets and sunrises for different countries. Their are so many starts and planets but we all know how natural laws are applied to them and these laws are universal laws. However, when we talk about God who can be just one, who created this world, we have different ways to represent God. We have so many planets, stars, solar systems, galaxies in this universe and we don’t. even know everything about them and the things we know about them, those also keep changing from time to time. But the God who is supposed to be most powerful and the creator of everything has been defined in religious books. How come if there is only one god then we have so many different representations of him in different religions!!
