PREDICTING THE FUTURE ISN’T MAGIC , IT’S ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE — DAVE WATERS
Artificial intelligence is the technology that can enable the machines and robots to act, think and behave like humans.
Introduction of AI has changed the outlook of various industries. It has a major impact on the agricultural , business , healthcare , manufacturing sectors.
The question whether AI is a boon or bane still arises and it’s answer is quite tricky. The fear of AI operated machines to take over humankind and to make a dystopian future is quite valid.
Every industry has been revolutionized by the launch of AI. But in the recent years the healthcare and manufacturing sectors have benefitted a lot. Healthcare industry is constantly molded by AI. Due to AI it has been possible to identify and diagnose certain diseases in which humans previously had little knowledge. There are many ways that AI can change the perspective of healthcare. Like the Brain-Computer Interface which allows people with neurological problems to restore normal somatic functions. The advancement of radiological tools will help to diagnose lesions more precisely and accurately with little to no human contamination and harm. Due to AI there has been extended access to healthcare in areas with less facility and resources. These advances in medical equipments and tools is just the beginning of an era.
It is no lie that AI has made the human work easy. It performs tasks with more speed, accuracy and precision. It can manage all the big data and information that maybe a human couldn't do. It is available all the time and can easily do repetitive tasks. The AI robots and machines can also do threatening jobs on behalf of humans and can go beyond many of the dangerous restrictions that humans face.
As every coin has two sides. The major disadvantage AI possess is that of unemployment. Millions of jobs has been replaced by these intelligent machines. It has also made humans go lazy and dependent. The cost for implementation of these machines and training employees is also very high. It can not understand and process human emotions which are a big deal. As these machines work on an algorithm they cannot think outside the box therefore showing no improvement. Ethics in AI has always been a point of discussion. It can also be considered biased sometimes due to it’s pre-feeded inputs.
Looking at the use of AI in today’s world it is no denying that it is here to stay for a good, long time. But the fear of machines overpowering the human race is still in the picture. What we can do is to monitor the rate at which this technological revolution is taking place. Humans have to take control of the speed at which this advancement is happening. At last AI is just a gadget and it completely depends on humans as to how it gets utilized.
