I know of two related instances.
- When I was in the Navy and drew shore patrol duty my “training” consisted of: If you feel you need to fire your gun, shoot at the ground never in the air. If the bullet goes up it will come down somewhere.
- One day we had rain/water leaks behind a wall strating in the ceiling. I crawled up into the attic but nothing serious seemed wrong but I positioned myself directly over the water stain and found a deformed bullet on the floor of the attic. Then I looked very carefully and could see a small hole in the roof; exactly in channel that directed rain water out and down :) where it would do the most damage :) Our neighbor was a Yahoo that used to go out and shoot his gun in the air on holidays!
After those lessons I have decided anybody, foreign or domestic, that celebrates by shooting bullets in the air is sub-human. Unfortunately there seems to be a plentiful supply of that.
