Thank you for writing this, Jonathan. While one could argue that there’s a lot more that goes into good management than your manifesto outlines (I shamelessly point you to what I’ve written about “essential management” here on Medium: https://medium.com/better-management/introducing-a-model-of-management-7e5b547e83c6#.sypwokpzx), I agree 100% that it’s already enough to make a meaningful difference in many organisations — and not just startups.
Too many founders/owners forget that it’s not only about the product, but also about the organisation and people that create the product. Good management isn’t cost, overhead or bureaucracy — it’s the lifeblood of an organisation. Or as Gary Hamel as put it so eloquently: “Management is a social technology, the technology of human accomplishment”.
