Me looking back at me

by Raymond Munyaradzi Chivere The Elder

I look in the mirror and what can I see,

Me looking back at me.

I know this sight so well,

I wonder how they cannot see;

Me looking back at me.

I want to share my life, my love, my breathe

I want to be known to one soul to the depths.

I want to fly to the heights and have someone see,

Me looking back at me.

But the world is filled with deserters.

The cold feeling of raindrops in a world with no rain,

Wets only the lips of those who say they feel no pain.

No love, no emotion, no kingly devotion,

I look in the mirror a dessert I find.

Me looking back at me.

All this reminds a life without love

Is a broken-winged dove, I pray thee please love

Me looking back at me.
