Housing in an insane market

Now that I’ve joined the Homebuyer’s Association of San Francisco (yes, that evil entity filled with soul-sucker landlords) by buying a house, I’ve noticed and learned a couple things from going through the process of renting out rooms.

People have no idea what rent looks like in San Francisco. People ask me for the price of a room. I tell them it’s market price, also known as, whatever the hell people will pay for an good.

They sneer at me.

Seriously?

You might not have taken economics 101, but the true price of any good is the highest price that someone will pay.

So those of you running around trying to find studios in San Francisco for $1200/month (plus you want utilities included, a parking spot, pet-friendly, a good area, and everything else).

Do the rest of us a favor and learn a little about economics.
