Princes Street Gardens

Princes Street Gardens in the sun
a rare treat
swathes of peely wally guys
stared at peely wally gals
shirtless and short skirts
my eyes bulged.

Luscious green
flowery and free
who needs factor 50
me
that's who.

Edinburgh Castle sunbathed
atop a plinth of rock
an ancient volcano
lava less now
the sun is noon high
genial and generous.

Ice cream cones melted
sticky sweet hands
marshmallow clouds
dotted a dreamy blue sky
lobster red faces abound.

Rows of trees
cheerfully shaggy
swayed in the breeze
psithurism is salubrious
Mother Nature's tunes.

A miasma of pollen
dope smoke
and designer colognes
I reeked of Aqua Di Geo
the smells of a Scottish summer.

The afternoon surrendered to evening
a golden halo coronation
bottles of beer
warm and foamy
an imperfect end to a perfect day.
