Chinese Damas
“Chinese dama” means the Chinese elder woman. Basically, they are healthy, rich, and they have time. The age of these damas is about 50 to 70 years old. They are energetic, passionate and nosy. They like to get together in the parks and squares, and they like to dance there with loud music.

They dance just for the health reasons and to have interaction with other people. They don’t need to work or they are retired, so they do it as a hobby.
They always do everything together. Dancing together, traveling together, and go shopping together. They even more formed a “dama econimics”. They did not just occupy the parks and squares. When they travel abroad, they also occupy some department stores. They are always crazy in shopping. That really made those countries a lot of income from sightseeing trips they go to.
The Wall Street Journal called these Chinese elder women “damas” because they bought a large amount of gold when the price of gold decreased in 2013. They don’t understand the investment and they don’t know how to use the investment tools, but they know that the gold can be used as a hedge.
Chinese word 大媽 pronounced “dama”. The original meaning of 大媽 is the father’s first wife. In traditional Chinese society, the man could marry more than one woman. If your mother is not the first wife of your father, you should call the first wife of father “dama” (大媽). Dama always dominates the source of income in her family, so she can control all things in her big family. Chinese like to call a woman who has the authority of domination or decision and is willing to suffer the responsibility in a group “dama” (大媽).
