7 Extremely Healthy Uncommon Foods to Benefit Your Health
Many foods that are not mainstream have health benefits that you can take advantage of.
1. Chia seeds
I eat chia seeds every day.
They are packed with many nutrients that give me a natural boost in energy.
Chia seeds contain 11 grams of fiber, 4 grams of protein and 18% of your daily calcium per ounce. Also, the seeds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids.
2. Spaghetti squash
I love the taste of spaghetti squash.
Spaghetti squash contains 2g of fiber, plenty of potassium, and plentiful vitamins A and C every cup.
It is a great form of healthy carbohydrates. I use it as a substitute for potatoes.
3. Brazil nuts
Usually almonds, peanuts, and walnuts get all of the glory for nuts.
Brazil nuts have an exceptional nutrition profile. They are high in protein, quality fats, and vitamins.
They are also high in selenium. Selenium can help with heart health by helping to prevent coronary heart disease.
4. Starfruit
Starfruit has a unique taste. Tart, but sweet at the same time.
It contains a high amount of vitamin C and antioxidants. On top of this, it is low in calories.
5. Pumpkin
There is nothing better than eating pumpkin in the fall time. But, are you as crazy as me to eat it in the summer?
Pumpkin is low in fat and calories. With plenty of potassium and nutrients.
Eating pumpkin meat can help your cardiovascular health, help lower blood pressure, and aid with your vision.
Bonus: Pumpkin seeds are another underrated health food that you can take advantage of.
6. Lentils
Lentil soup is my favorite soup. They are similar to beans but smaller with a smoother texture.
Lentils are an outstanding source of plant protein. Also, they have a high amount of vitamins and contain high-quality carbs.
They can help with weight loss, heart health, and blood sugar stabilization.
7. Artichokes
I enjoy the taste of artichokes. They have a unique structure and taste to them that no other vegetable has.
My favorite is eating an artichoke dip. Usually mixed with cheese, avocado, or yogurt, artichoke dip can taste amazing.
Artichokes are full of fiber, and antioxidants along with vitamins C and K.
Artichokes can help lower blood sugar, prevent inflammation, and protect your heart health.
I like to switch up what I eat with food. Not everyone can eat the same thing all of the time.
If you are ever bored with the food you have been eating it is worth trying these foods.
In this modern age, we have an abundance of foods available to us at all times. Might as well take advantage of it!
