I have joined Mount Parker Ventures as a Venture Partner.

After my co-founder Jonah and I ceased operations at Clickful a year ago, we both set off on different but equally fulfilling paths. Jonah went on to become VP of Product at Crypto.com, and I’ve moved on to lead an accelerator program focused on artificial intelligence. My job there was to plan and execute a curriculum for founders that helps them with marketing, product strategy, scaling, building teams and, of course, pitching and fundraising. After spending a good part of my startup life in and around accelerators, this type of…

I’m ecstatic to share that I have joined Zeroth.AI as a full-time Partner. My new role will be to invest in and lead the upcoming cohorts of companies in the accelerator’s Hong Kong program.

How I got here It’s been a good five years since I pivoted my career to startups. I went to my first startup event, met my first co-founder, participated in my first Startup Weekend, got my first hot desk membership and converted to my first Mac. (motivational hardware move at a time when plastering a million startup stickers on your laptop was still cool, and so…

The one objective that Jonah and I had when we began Designjar was to provide small business owners with a simple and affordable way to obtain professional-grade marketing graphics. Designjar will be a self-service platform that generates custom branded graphics in seconds.

Our customer base consists of those that care deeply about their brands and want to ensure its image and brand message is maintained through their marketing campaigns. They are also eager for a solution outside of inefficient freelancer marketplaces or DIY tools. Our job is to build a service that is easy to use and delivers high quality…

When building any startup, founders should always look for mentors and advisors that believe in their cause and can help steer them in the right direction. At Designjar, we are excited that we had a terrific group of such individuals supporting us right out of the gate. Today, we are thrilled to announce that Tak Lo is officially joining Designjar as an active advisor. Tak comes with a wealth of experience in investing and advising startups. He has angel invested, founded, and mentored over 50 early stage startups throughout his career.

Previously a director at Techstars in London, Tak was…

It was only a few weeks after I stepped down as co-founder and CEO of Shopline and I was already set to take my next steps. However, since it was the holiday season, I took the opportunity to relax with family, reflect on my experience and recharge after 2 years of starting and running a company. Fast forward to January, it was time to put my personal plan to action. My goal to start 2016 was to reach out to as many people as I can in the community. Whether it be investors, advisors, fellow founders, friends in the media…

Batch 10 Opening Batch meeting at 500 Startups Accelerator

With so much attention being paid to startup accelerators over the last several years, entrepreneurs are clamouring to earn a spot in top tier programs as a first step for their startup. Our base city of Hong Kong has also seen an uptick of local accelerators, many of which are dedicated to specific focuses such as B2B, hardware or fintech.

Ever since Shopline returned from the 500 Startups accelerator last summer, I frequently get asked several general questions regarding our experience. I will devote this post to answering a few of them.

1. How did you get in and was…

I originally moved to Hong Kong from New York as a transferee with my (soul sucking) corporate job but I always had an itch to do something else. Throughout a better part of ten years, I have built websites for others, launched a Facebook app, created a niche marketplace and even a social network. And in 2012, I thought I had finally come up with a brilliant idea.

Yes, you’ll need one of those, co-founder thingies.

My idea was an advertising technology where blog owners can monetise the comments section of their blogs. The concept wasn’t about what ads were…

Fundraising can seem like a daunting task to first time entrepreneurs, especially those who have never fundraised before in any capacity. While you can listen to endless talks about startup fundraising, you really will not know until you get out there and start. I would recommend that entrepreneurs try and seek suggestions from other startup founders who have successfully raised funds before. These are the people that have seen the good, bad and the ugly sides of fundraising and you can learn a lot from their mistakes.

One thing I learned along the way is that fundraising should always be…
