Since 2 weeks already Munich is in deep mode of quarantine — all entertainments are closed, including clubs, restaurants, bars.

How do you socialise during such times?

It took me a week of struggle to team up with my friends and organise an online quarantine club. Initial idea was to play boardgames, but in practice not all boardgames are easy to play via webcam.

That’s the point where we decided to give a try to Mafia Party Game. I heard people were already playing it online since years.

It’s all fun, but there is no much movement and I spend the whole day at computer desk. Like literally. The whole day sitting.

Fitness and dance studios are closed. So what are we left with? I tried to organise salsa warm-ups, but after few days I realised that quality of video and audio wasn’t sufficient as well as my knowledge of warm-up steps. Real life exercises gives possibility to interact and have much more fun.

Zumba came to the rescue! All kind of dance styles from professional instructors with high quality video and audio!

We start video in our youtubes simultaneously and share our webcam during exercise. That’s a lot of fun and… sweat! Exactly what I was missing from all this online interactions.

Now everything is covered! Brain and body exercises, as well as social part of it!

What was on our schedule except Zumba and Mafia? Well, let’s see:

  • The Resistance (board game)
  • Pandemic (board game)
  • Book Club
  • German Conversation club
  • Karaoke
  • and the list is not over! you can add your ideas as well!

Organisation though wasn’t that easy. I have seen quarantine clubs in Facebook and I didn’t want to end up just another group on Facebook. Facebook can just practically destroy any good idea and your posts will be lost somewhere in oblivion of photos of cute cats and dogs. Neither I wanted to distract my mates with another spammy WhatsApp chat. First we tried to use Google Calendar and soon realised that it was also spammy enough if you had to make some updates in the events.

I ended up creating a special platform Guten Abend for this quarantine club. Everyone is welcome to join. Check our schedule, find something that might interest you or add your ideas, we are happy collaborate!
