River City BlueCats Formed
Manchester, MO — April 8th, 2018
The second semi-pro box lacrosse franchise in the St. Louis area has been formed and is starting operations immediately. As announced by the Interstate Box Lacrosse Association, the River City BlueCats will join the highly successful St. Louis Centurions in forming the Missouri Region of IBLA.
“In order to form a region within the IBLA, a second team was needed in the St. Louis area”, said Troy Hood, owner and GM of the BlueCats. “I completely enjoyed my time with the Centurions and winning a BLL Cup Championship was a fantastic feeling. However, in order to grow the game, it was necessary to start another team”.
The BlueCats will call Webster Groves Ice Arena their home for the summer of 2018. As the new kids on the block, they’ll host 3 games of the best of 7 series with the Centurions for the opportunity to represent Missouri in the RBLL Championships in Lakeville, MN.
“We definitely have a great deal of work ahead of us. I know, first hand, how close the Centurions have become. Therefore, from the draft in June until mid-July, we’ll have to learn a great deal and learn it together to be competitive”, said Hood when asked about developing a new program.
The BlueCats will use the iconic Blue Catfish prominent in the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers as its mascot. The team logo appears below. Complete uniform colors will be Royal Blue, Silver, and Kelly Green. Jersey designs will be released shortly.
Players interested in competing in the Missouri Region are encouraged to register at www.iblalacrosse.com. That will place them in the player pool for a tryout and draft to take place in very early June. Once the teams are selected, preparation will begin straight away.
