Mastery prose. I was concerned from the start that it might not be fiction, but then it didn’t matter: it resonated all the same. You have a novelist’s talent for detail and a humanist’s ability to map emotions.
My mother descended into dementia long before she died — I think a short prognosis is better than lingering in limbo. My sister is on the same journey; she is tethered far from the world and only her heroic husband, holding the rope, keeps her from drifting completely away.
It is a difficult subject to write about: you did it beautifully.
