As for Twitter, I’m afraid Facebook’s loss is not Twitter’s gain. Twitter is not as big as Facebook, but it is still pretty big. The possibility of a forthcoming acquisition will keep any bold, risky and overly forward-looking initiatives in check.
I am, to put it mildly, highly skeptical of the “meaningful interactions” and “time well spent” spiel. These are precisely the things Facebook never focused on too much. It’s not in the DNA. Meaningless distraction is — which has for a long time been fine and well, and great for business.
