It’s amazing that Hemingway could raise 5,000 francs, since his friends weren’t doing any better than he was. Hadley was paying most of the bills (piano lessons and a small annuity). Still, it’s quite the dedication to art, and owning a Miró must have been quite thrilling. Imagine bringing that painting home, then slipping outside to catch a pigeon. Heady days back then.
