We all deal with considerable “insincerity,” even here where we have a forum for original thought. So many writers find articles and stories they like, figuring they’ll make it their own—especially in the self-improvement category. “Writing to be seen” appears to be the order of the day, from texting to self-publishing. Books today are about being seen. The publicity itself (usually done online) is about being seen. We’ll do anything for a response, making good language and good writing secondary to visibility. Thanks for the article—and Orwell.
