Feldenkrais Method
A Study of Anxiety, Sex, Gravitation and Learning
Moshe Feldenkrais’ first book, Body and Mature Behavior, is subtitled A Study of Anxiety, Sex, Gravitation and Learning. This subtitle has formed the intention of my Feldenkrais practice as I work with my clients, and myself. Everything we do in life is done through our movement and the tone of our musculature as controlled by our brain in response to our environment. Our thoughts, emotions, feelings all get related to other people through changing the tone of our muscles, that impact the look on our face, the shape or our posture. Moshe Feldenkrais looked life as a system where our mind, body and environment are one, perfectly related. He also looked at posture, actually acture (as the root of posture is post and there is nothing like a post in dynamic human beings so Moshe invented acture to describe musculature leading to action and changing postures). Expression and movement are often being done habitually, and that if you could teach a person more options of movement their thinking, feeling and true self expression would also have more options. What we know as the Feldenkrais Method is an inter-disciplinary study and continual learning process to allow us to be more fully human, and improve life itself.
