micro-reviews:

Disclaimer and Legend:
* Movie name links to imdb when possible. IMDb/Rotten Tomato scores are from when i wrote the review so they might differ when you read.
* Stars are granted on a 5-star scale and are not meant to be compared universally but (perhaps) with equally themed movies. 5 stars for a romantic comedy doesn't compare to 5 stars on a action movie; genre and purpose matter.
* A “+” in a star scale means it’s better than equally starred movies it may contend with. Ratings are based on my opinion at the moment and may change cause reasons.

Neighbors (2014): Surprisingly funny outlook on adulthood and parenting. Comedy for a lazy day.

Good if you like: seth-rogen movies, lazy comedies, cute babies.

My Rating: ★★★✰✰; Imdb: 6.4 /10; RT:73 /100

Sin City: A dame to kill for (2014): As expected awesome visuals, relentless noir cliches and tropes. I should adore it, yet, it felt stylish for sake of style, lacks story or making me care.

Good if you like: noir grittiness, unique visual styles.

My Rating: ★★✰✰✰+; IMDb: 6.6 /10; RT:43 /100

The one i Love (2014): Very quirky “un-romance” movie that involves at least one genre not mentioned on most reviews, you should find out which. Worth a look.

Good if you like: quirky (romance) movies, what’s-going-on movies

My Rating: ★★★✰✰; imdb: 7.1 /10; RT: 80 /100

Extraterrestrial (2011): Unique take on what (could) happen on a odd UFO invasion day. Very entertaining movie and characters. Worth watching.

Good if you like: new takes on “apocaliptic” enviroments, situational comedy.

My Rating: ★★★★✰; imdb: 5.8 /10; RT: 69 /100

The Iron Giant (1999): Animated movies, giant robot movies, retro style animation.

Good if you like: Animated movies, giant robot movies, retro style animation

My Rating: ★★★✰✰; imdb: 8.0 /10; RT: 97 /100

We’re the millers (2013): Decent for the kind of movie it is: family-friendly roadtrip adventure with a twist.

Good if you like: family movies, family roadtrip movies.

My Rating: ★★★✰✰; imdb: 7.1 /10; RT: 47 /100

The raid 2: Berandal (2014): Awesome action/fight movie, a bit on the long side. Way more variety than the first one, better fights than most action movies. Photography was amazing. Watch it!

Good if you like: good martial arts fights, long fights, action

My Rating: ★★★★✰; imdb: 8.1 /10; RT: 79 /100

12 years a slave (2013): Tough to digest human situations make for a interesting watch.

Good if you like: Real historic human dramas

My Rating: ★★★★✰; imdb: 8.2 /10; RT: N/A /100

To Rome with love (2012): Good ol’ quirky Woody Allen humor, always fun. Lacks a bit of cohesiveness.

Good if you like: Woody Allen movies, brainy-smarty-talky humor

My Rating: ★★★✰✰+; imdb: 6.3 /10; RT: 43 /100

Diamonds are forever (1971): Bond back at his antics. Somehow it feels like Connery didn’t have as much fun as before, silly henchmen, good action pieces as expected. BEST BOND GADGET EVER in intro sequence.

Good if you like: James bond completionist, silly era james bond

My Rating: ★★✰✰✰; imdb: 6.7 /10; RT: 66 /100

Whiplash (2014): Really enjoyed this music jazz tale. Interesting insight into competitive music scene, well played teacher-student dynamic. I recommend making time for this, specially if you have any connection to music.

Good if you like: Music-talent movies, drums, jazz, teacher-student dynamics

My Rating: ★★★★✰+; imdb: 8.7 /10; RT: 95 /100

Fury (2014): Interesting war movie from a not-oft used laser-focused angle: that of a tank crew with a mission. interesting combat and insight on war.

Good if you like: war movies, brad pitt’s inglorious basterds character, tanks, WW2

My Rating: ★★★✰✰; imdb: 7.8 /10; RT: 78 /100

Two night stand (2014): Liked this way more than i should. A rom-com that provides some new ideas and laughs. Worth a look, i think this could be a good date movie. Also, it seems i like stuck-in-a-apt movies. On another note, refreshing to see a classy way to handle sex scenes.

Good if you like: romantic comedies, impossibly-cool-big apartments

My Rating: ★★★✰✰+; imdb: 6.5 /10; RT: 32 /100

IP man (aka YIP man) (2008): So this man trained cocky Bruce Lee huh? i did not see that coming… Kung Fu in movies, as usual, is awesome. Wonder if the sequel is worth it?

Good if you like: non-hollywood action/paced fighting movies.

My Rating: ★★★✰✰; imdb: 8.1 /10; RT: 84 /100

The purge: Anarchy (2014): So i haven’t seen the first one, but i figured you know, how deep can the plot of a movie called “the purge” be? Anyways, it did it’s job, it kept the tension and action going all through the movie.

Good if you like: Action/shooting movies, the purge 1 (i guess?), dystopian government movies

My Rating: ★★★✰✰; imdb: 6.5 /10; RT: 56 /100
