It’s Not Okay to Hate Hillary Clinton

Clinton’s myriad victims have a right to hate her and her reactionary politics

Supporters like Jennifer Hoelzer need to point to Hillary Rodham Clinton’s youth, when she did a few years of wealthy white tourism, since Clinton’s life is otherwise devoid of almost any other decent acts. Opportunism is transparent though, and Clinton’s white savior years at Children’s Defense Fund are best summed up by the organization’s Marian Wright Edelman:

“Well, you know, Hillary Clinton is an old friend, but they are not friends in politics.” (emphasis mine)

Here are just a few of the people for whom it is “okay” to hate the nativist, racist, imperialist, neoliberal candidate: Hillary Rodham Clinton.

It’s okay for victims of Clinton’s nativist, anti-immigrant policies

While troglodyte Donald Trump talks about walls and deportations, Clinton has actually voted for and implemented those policies.

“But we have so to send a clear message, just because your child gets across the border, that doesn’t mean the child gets to stay.” — Hillary Rodham Clinton
“I am, you know, adamantly against illegal immigrants” — Hillary Rodham Clinton

Clinton’s vile anti-immigrant policies dovetail with her imperialist interventions in Latin American. She didn’t just aid and abet the right-wing coup in Honduras, she went to great lengths to make sure that the victims caught up in the aftermath would not be able to flee to the U.S. That she lied about her role in the Honduran putsch, is quite telling in the face of insistence that Clinton’s dishonesty issues are a fabrication of the fringe-right. The left is very clear that Clinton is seemingly constitutionally incapable of telling the truth.

It’s okay for victims of Clinton’s racist, anti-black policy advocacy

“In her support for the 1994 crime bill, for example, she used racially coded rhetoric to cast black children as animals. “They are not just gangs of kids anymore,” she said. “They are often the kinds of kids that are called ‘super-predators.’ No conscience, no empathy. We can talk about why they ended up that way, but first we have to bring them to heel.” — Professor Michelle Alexander

Her callous, dismissive attitude towards Black Lives Matter activist Ashley Williams, and her DNC’s placate Black Lives Matter stance are strong evidence that her racist attitudes haven’t changed.

It’s okay for victims of Clinton’s bellicose foreign policies

Donald John Trump and Hillary Rodham Clinton are reckless warmongers that menace the entire global south. Both pose an existential threat to the world. As terrifying as Trump is, Clinton’s innumerable victims in Haiti, Honduras, Iraq, Libya, Palestine, and Syria are an indictment against allowing her in a position to command drones, cluster bombs, and white phosphorus again. Here’s a better summary of Clinton than anything I could ever write:

“Clinton’s policies have had — and will have — horrifically violent consequences for women living in Iraq, Palestine, Iran, and most of the Middle East. If Clinton took the action she talked about at AIPAC, food and basic human needs would become even more inaccessible to huge swaths of their communities, women would have even less access to reproductive health care and autonomy, and violence and militarization would increase. I’ve written this before and think it warrants writing again: when Clinton supporters refuse to apologize for liking her, or refuse to qualify their support of her, they are saying that they do not have to listen to or prioritize the voices of women she has locked up — or blown up — in Palestine, Iraq, Egypt, or Pakistan.” — Mahroh Jahangiri

In Clinton we have an individual so bellicose, so prone to fetishizing violence, and so willing to mete out death and destruction, that they’ve garnered the endorsement of some of the world’s most notorious war criminals. Clinton is endorsed by Paul Wolfowitz, Madeleine Albright, and John Negroponte, butchers all. Word is that she is still trying to get monster Henry Kissinger on board as well. In a just world the lot of them would be frog-marched in shackles to the dock at The Hague.

Deplorable, despicable individuals are deserving of scorn

Just as we hold the repugnant, reprehensible Donald Trump in the highest contempt, we need to judge Hillary Rodham Clinton through the same lens. Her domestic record is one of causing extensive material harm in the lives of the poor and persons of color, and her foreign affairs record is of barbaric imperialism against the global south. Hate is a strong word, but there are few individuals more deserving of it than Trump-Clinton. Members of the ruling class, white bourgeois “feminists”, and others so privileged as to not be affected by Clinton policies may not understand, but there’s a reason why so many find her and her policies loathsome. Her vile words alone provide some insight.
