Maximal web

*Bars always bothered me. Well, the UX ones anyway. We’ve got toolbars, address-bars, favourite bars, window-bars, status-bars etc. and I find them ever distracting when workflowing away on my little laptop.

I wanted to be able to tour around on the beautiful web you all create and nourish, without having to share the experience with those creatures living on the top of the window.

So I figured out this small and nifty hack that will make your browsing experience much more enriching.

The only browser I found can do this is Safari. But trust me, once you experience it, you’ll never ask Chrome for directions again.

But we don’t want to lose any functionality now, do we? Wouldn’t it be great if we could toggle the toolbar with a three-finger-swipe up swipe, and the bookmarks bar with a three-finger-swipe down swipe?

Here’s how

This is how to set it up

If you are gonna do it, do it right.

  1. Install Better Touch Tool
  2. Open up System Preferences —> Keyboard — >Shortcuts→ App Shortcuts
  3. Add the app Safari and add the following shortcuts. (case sensitive)

4. Now open Better Touch Tool, add the app Safari, select Trackpads in the top bar and add the gestures three-finger up– and down. Make them trigger a “custom keyboard shortcut”. Press cmd+alt+T for the up gesture and cmd+shift+B for the down gesture.

And oh. Just press cmd+L to temporarily access the adress field.

Enjoy your minimal browsing.

Let’s keep in touch!
