How often have you thought of teachers as magicians ?? Not so often right? Well let’s think of an ideal classroom where teachers are well informed, well aware about what makes their classroom the best, which simply means a teacher entering the class and saying to herself/himself “ I know how my students learn and I am equipped to teach them that way”.

We all want them to own their professional development. Right? But how do we really achieve that? We need to find sustainable solutions to increase teacher effectiveness, to turn them into magicians so that our classrooms are spaces where students just don’t become attenders but they become learners.

Theme 1 for READing Hackathon2017

Teacher effectiveness begins with each teacher’s ability to understand pedagogy and how to effectively use the instructional materials. Teachers’ level of expertise can vary significantly, depending on the quality of their university teacher training program. Therefore, this important, foundational aspect of teacher effectiveness should not be overlooked. Just to let you know, we have roughly around twenty six lac primary school teachers and around fourteen crore kids in primary schools. Now can you imagine the amount of responsibility these teachers have on them?

Though education as a sector has been investing loads on providing teachers with great instructional material but the question remains “why”, why do specific students require certain instructional resources and “when” those resources are needed are the key questions that will unlock schools’ ability to empower teachers to obtain a level of effectiveness that will improve student outcomes. Its crucial to equip teachers with the right knowledge to understand learning needs of the class to be as effective as possible

Why don’t we explore the use of technology to help us find a solution? Why not crowd source for innovative solutions to these pressing problems teachers face. let’s witness rich participation from a well informed and passionate crown that works together to create solutions for “turning our teachers into magicians”. Magicians who understand their students, their needs, their progress, their interests and then exactly know how to cast their spell to make dead classrooms come alive, reignite imagination and change the way people understand education.
