Mickey Mouse Ears
Ronald Reagan’s admiration and respect for Walt Disney, whom he personally knew, spanned decades. In 1955, Ronald Reagan was one of the co-hosts of the grand opening of Disneyland. As President of the United States, he held his second inaugural parade at Disney World when Washington, D.C. proved too cold to hold it there. After leaving the Oval Office, one of his first public events was a return to Disneyland, where he officiated the park’s 1990 35th anniversary celebration.
These two Mickey Mouse ears, both embroidered with “Mr. President” were gifts to President Reagan. The first is from Walt Disney World, and was a gift in 1987 from former White House staffer Sue Richard. The second is from Disneyland Cast Members in 1985 who worked as Ride Operators in Adventureland and Frontierland.
