We used to call it skunk beer. But — Belgian beer is generally very good. Budvar — the original brewer and predecessor to Adolphus Busch’s recipe — is a Czech lager. The Anheuser version is more like an ale, as is the Belgian varieties. Germans make a light lager called Pilsner — created in Pilsen, Czech Republic originally. True beer varieties which are German would be Kolsch and some wheat brews.
