Unlearning leads to joy

In adult life we spend a lot of the time unlearning, or at least trying to unlearn that we don’t need the approval of others, of our peers and of society.

A lot of us spend a great deal of time learning how to live in the moment and not care so much about materialistic things in the same way that children often do.

We grow old and we get smarter but maybe this constant, consistent acquisition of knowledge doesn’t always do us good. Maybe sometimes it’s better just to be; even if that means being bored, tired, or lazy.

If we’re constantly consuming information in search of a ‘happiness fix’ we’re unlikely to find it. In fact happiness fixes have become harder to find in this information age because we keep choosing to spend our time consuming rather than being.

True joy, which differs from fleeting happiness, often blooms in moments of stillness and not necessarily being still but feeling grounded, grateful and appreciative.
