Sean Tatalovich there’s definitely a technique to it.
In your ideation process, atoms should be designed as wireframe pieces. I presented my final design so it would be easier on the eyes, but during the initial design they should just be black and white squares and circles that represent your atoms.
After you’ve gotten your product wireframed, then you can start adding the visual design aesthetics.
This process makes you think through the user’s experience, and allows you to see the big picture and how all the pieces work together. After you’ve nailed down the system, then you start working on the visual design.
