As a native Pittsburgher and (now) longtime remote worker, I salute your perspective here. While my hometown has reinvented itself, there are many others along the Rust Belt that have withered over the past few decades. Here’s hoping remote work could offer a more hopeful (if not altogether more modern/dynamic) future for those in these ‘forgotten’ towns. I’m saying this in recognition of the fact that moving away isn’t always an option…but if it’s possible, it may be the best one.
