How To Host A Relaxing Spa Day At Home

Long gone are the days of Tupperware parties and the Avon lady calling, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get together with the girls and have a great time. Spa parties are not only all the rage nowadays, they’re a perfect option for bridal showers, a girl’s night in or just a way for a few friends to unwind and relax after a hectic day.

DECISIONS, DECISIONS

Before planning your spa day, indoor getaway, decide what will actually be occurring during your event. Be sure to invite only a number of guests that your space will comfortably tolerate and decide what will “be on the menu.” Will this be a DIY deal where you’re responsible for everything, or will you split up different responsibilities for your guests to participate in different practices?

For example, if you’re the sole provider, perhaps you’ll offer a full-facial followed by a body cream exfoliation. If you’ll be sponsoring a tag-team event, a potluck-type of experience, you could set up different stations for a manicure, pedicure, massage, aromatherapy and other relaxing stops. Discuss with your guests what station they would like to take charge of and have them bring all the appropriate ingredients and gear necessary for their spot.

PLANNING

Pick a day or evening, when you think the majority of your gal pals will be available and send out some really cute invitations at least three weeks in advance. Along with the date, time and place, remind guests what they need to bring which should include:

  • Items for their station if you’re going down that road
  • Loose fitting clothing, preferably a robe or other type of comfortable wrap
  • Open toed slippers or sandals
  • Towels and a pillow

If you’re having a sleepover, make sure your guests bring their overnight bag along with any toiletries or other necessities that will make them feel more comfortable.

PREPARATION

While your spa pals are bringing their must-haves, be sure your space is prepared for their arrival. Set aside a specific bathroom space with plenty of clean hand towels, wash cloths and gentle, non-allergenic soap. You should also have:

  • Your spa space(s) prepared
  • Scented candles
  • Calm, relaxing music or chimes
  • Nice water glasses with sliced lemons, limes or other garnish
  • Plenty of drinking water, either sparkling or natural
  • Healthy snacks like fruits and nuts

But you don’t necessarily have to go au natural, you could always serve wine and chocolates! It’s your party and you should splurge if you want to, splurge if you want to. Do whatever you think your guests will enjoy the most. If you will be serving libations, be sure to have non-alcoholic choices available for non-drinking partiers.

A TAKE AWAY TOTE

There’s no better way of saying thank you than a small token of appreciation at the end of your event. Perhaps you could make several, small gift bags as a special take away tote. You don’t have to break the bank, think of one (or some) of these inexpensive options:

  • Scented candles
  • Trial size beauty products
  • Bath salts or beads
  • Perfume samples (often found in department stores for free)
  • Lotions or sunscreens (depending on the season)
  • Nail polish, clippers and files

And speaking of gratitude, don’t forget to send each of your guests a thank you note, whether it’s an old school, snail mail, a mention on Facebook or an email message. Everyone wants to know their company was appreciated and spreading the joy is all part of the fun!
