Hi! I’m from Vancouver, BC. Edit for your article: the 2010 logo has nothing to do with First Nations of the Pacific Northwest; it’s a derivative of Inuit art and culture http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/vancouver-olympic-emblem-comes-under-fire-1.557252
To me it seemed to sacrifice cultural integrity and an opportunity to share who we really are, in favour of a cheap grab at any any latent ‘Great White North’ brand recognition beyond mounties, maple leaves and dog sleds. I can’t look at the thing without finding it deeply distasteful and disrespectful. Perhaps the protocol surrounding the use of an explicitly Coast First Nations image would have been too loaded; but the logo symbol they chose is as unrelated to Vancouver — once a temperate rainforest — as igloos and dogsleds. Every time I see it I feel sold out.
