Villainizing Melania Trump is Inherently Sexist

The current Republican nominee has said everything from suggesting 26,000 unreported sexual assaults in the military were do to “these geniuses” putting men and women together, to calling breastfeeding “disgusting.”

Come to think of it, maybe The Donald should take a lesson from his wife as well and give silence a shot.

Stop focussing on anything Melania says or wears — or doesn’t. She’s not the Trump you should be worried about.

Slut shaming anyone — even the presumptive First Lady — is sexist.

If you’re putting down Melania Trump for her nude photoshoots in the past that just puts you on the same sexist level as the man who said ,“You know, it doesn’t really matter what [the media] write as long as you’ve got a young and beautiful piece of ass.”

While Melania Trump doesn’t seem to fit the mold we created of the ideal FLOTUS, that has more to do with her joke of a husband playing the part of the Republican nominee than it does with her choice of clothes — or lack there of. (And maybe a little bit due to the supernaturally high expectations we have after Michelle Obama stole our hearts).

Plain and simple, Melania Trump is a model. Shaming her for nude photoshoots from decades ago is both absurd and sexist. Not to mention a complete waste of time that could be spent exposing her husband’s — the actual candidate’s — disgusting comments and lack of change making policies.

In a Daily Vice video, Vanja Vardjan, an editor at RTV, spoke about when he knew Melania in her modeling career past. He said she would go to parties and say maybe five sentences in three hours.

“[She was] similar to how she is now in Trump’s campaign,” said Vardjan. “She doesn’t speak very much. It seems to me that in a way, she knows her role. A beautiful woman supporting a man, namely Trump.”

Well, it seems to me that Vardjan needs to take a lesson from the presumptive First Lady and shut the fuck up.

Yes, Melania Trump doesn’t have the makings of a FLOTUS who will urge her husband to “remember the ladies” like Abigail Adams. Or start a campaign to get healthy lunches into public schools like Michelle Obama. But does Trump look or sound anything like John Adams, Barack Obama or any other president we’ve ever had?
