Again, show me where he said hateful things about her death. Specific quotes are helpful. I don’t see him saying anything negative about her death, just that it’s a drop in the bucket compared to violence police shooting of Black people.
The phrase ‘All Lives Matter’ (ALM) means something different to people who believe that ‘Black Lives Matter’ (BLM); BLM means you are acknowledging the existence of racist police practices that lead to shooting deaths of unarmed Black people; ALM means you think that cops are totally justified in doing violence, because, hey, they might get shot.
A few points:
- People don’t have a choice to put on or take off blackness. They are born into it, and cannot choose it like a job — as police officers do.
- The idea that all lives matter — the whole idea of BLM is that they feel like their lives don’t matter, and are subject to extra policing, and are often killed indiscriminately — can you understand that? Can you try and understand what it feels like to see person after person murdered by cops, and think that you aren’t the next one to be murdered for non-compliance at a pullover (see Sandra Bland) or murdered for wearing a hoodie (see Trayvon Martin)?
Lastly, when you look at all these indiscriminate killings, does it not make your blood boil? Are you not moved to call for justice, and does not that call for justice see that is in an unjust system that lets the killers of Black people off the hook for ridiculous reasons?
I ask you to look at the murder of Tamir Rice, Eric Garner, and Freddie Gray, and tell me how it was justified.
