Wow. What a powerful piece. I love your statement that we must separate our actual value from what the world calculates it to be. I also think we need to rewrite that equation for that calculation. Women, regardless of race or creed, have been preyed upon and held secret the predation in the mistaken believe that we are protecting ourselves when, in fact, we are protecting our predators. But how do we, as women, own that which was perpetrated against us, keep our heads high, and outshine the more famous perpetrator? The rapist definitionally gets more notoriety than the raped. His act is reprehensible, yet WE are shamed. We need to change that.
