I Have Nothing to Gain When I’m Right
The best of us must sometimes eat our words -JK Rowling

When you tell me that I’m right, I just smile serenely.
I feel no pride in being right.
I feel no selfish satisfaction in being right.
I feel no vindication in being right.
I feel compassion.
When you tell me that I’m right, I feel gratitude.
I see that you’ve worked on yourself, took the time to think about my words and yours, and that the thoughts ran deep.
When you tell me that I’m right, I feel your respect for me.
I acknowledge that in having those deeps thoughts in response to my ideas, you’ve taken them seriously. You took them seriously enough to question your own ideas, some of which might have been deeply ingrained within your psyche.
When you tell me that I’m right, I know that it isn’t about me.
Admitting to being wrong can sometimes boil down to your pride allowing you to do so. I know it, I see it. Process this in your own time, because I know that it’s not about me having told you so, but you having decided to admit to changing your opinion.
