My Dog

I used to envy the people who brought their dogs everywhere, having people approach them asking to pet their dog. Whenever they were asked what the name was, they would reply “Spot”, Rocky”, or any other generic name. Well now I’m that type of person. I bring my dog everywhere, and when people ask what her name is, I simply reply “Two-Eyes”.

Two-Eyes is a black lab mixed with a German Shepard. She has light brown eyes, that light up when she sees any human being. When I ask her a question or talk to her in a playful tone, her ears perk up and she tilts her head as if saying “I’m trying to understand”. Whenever a person pets her and then stops, she pushes at their hand with her nose until they start to pet her again. If you sit down, she will come over and sit down, then scooch over until she’s completely on top of your feet. But if I want to play with her, I bring her outside and she takes off like a bullet out of a gun. In her glory days, she was clocked at 40 miles per hour. This makes playing with her interesting because I’ll take off running, then all of a sudden I hear her coming up behind me, which makes me try to run even faster.

I would consider Two-Eyes one of my best friends. When I’m uspet, she’ll lay down next to me and just listen to me talk (not that she has much choice). I’ll be ready to walk out of the door, and she’ll stand by the door waiting for absolution; is she going with me or not. If I have to leave her behind, she puts her tail between her legs and pushes at the door with her nose, trying to follow me. But if I say “Come on girl”, she’ll take off running towards any vehicle she sees. She loves going for rides with me. All she does is lay down in the doggy hammock I put in my backseat, and watch out the windows as the cars go by. The best feeling is turning around and seeing her face in my rearview mirror.

When people say “Dogs are a man’s best friend”, I can agree because I have the proof lying next to me right now.
