A question before sleep

She needed to cut it off, all of it, all of her arm; chopped off; sliced down, that mass of blood, meat and bones didn’t served her anymore. She knew she was right, she knew she was doing the right thing, stepping into the future, it was a tricky gesture and it was her, the agent that had to act, not only by choosing to get rid of her arm, and signing all the forms, but she was the one that had to do it.

They said a little bit up the elbow that would do the trick! Easy right?

In those kind of moments it is easy to forget how to breathe, so you swallow, as if air is something you eat.

She looked at the knife she was holding, hi-tech, you just have to move a bit, a twist of a hand and it will be done, fast.

Silence and waiting gazes.

And it was, fast, the little alien bugs reached to her bleeding limb and begin consuming, instantly, they would begin building in some weeks, they said, her new, better arm.

And still the pain was lingering, a sort of panicky, an oppressing in the stomach, and a breathless excitement. She smiled got up and tried to walk out the door, she fainted before reaching it with the question of what exactly she felt first, was it the sound of her arm felling off or the electric pain?

The arm was better, better linked to her brain, she could now write with both hands, draw, multitask in general, and she liked it more, it had a silvery look but not to silvery, just perfect, even the veins of her shoulder were having silvery glimpses while pumping blood and something more.

This new alien technology was just brilliant she didn’t understand why so many of her friends were so suspicious about it. She was planning in getting her legs done, and her other arm, it could be huge, she could be so much better, so much attuned with her own thoughts ideas and desires. She went back in thinking about her friends, tried to see and understand, it was not as if her arm was going to be against her.

In the exact moment she thought that her arm shivered.

Late at night, in her bed she woke up, her hand, her beautiful new hand, was choking her.

Before she went down to this other kind of sleep she wondered, was it the alien technology, or was it her own thoughts?
