We are excited to have Hugo Sinha, CEO of DropGenie, into our portfolio of RebelBio Cohort VI companies that are accelerating to change the world of medical research.

Hugo Sinha demonstrates microfluidics is about more than just moving drops of liquid.

Having an Indian/American dad and French mum meant Hugo’s experiences have been globally diverse, and consequently he’s set his sights much further afield than just a small town impact.

“I never felt a predilection for biology or engineering. Rather, I was curious to explore both, so I opened the doors to both by obtaining a degree in molecular biology and a Master’s in electrical and computer engineering. It was then that I realized the exponential potential of a multidisciplinary approach. I want to be logistically in the middle combining the power of these fields, and finding ways to incorporate others.” Hugo explains.

“A multidisciplinary approach is a prerequisite for personalised medicine, and by democratising the biological pipelines our microfluidics, tech can be expanded to different countries—and affecting people across traditional boundaries is a game changer.”

Instead of categorising people into the box of closest fit when it comes to a medical perspective, he is focusing 100% on the specific individual’s requirement using science. Thus, he started his exciting company DropGenie.

DropGenie can be looked at as a paradigm shift from the traditional ways that cells are edited in the lab—currently a long, manual, and expensive process. DropGenie is looking to engineer any type of organism in an automated fashion all within their enclosed system. For example, instead of bombarding a patient with multiple chemotherapy chemicals hoping one hits a home run, DropGenie can identify their silver bullet on the first bat.
