The idea behind the piece was wondering how to make sense out of nonsense. So I used something I said for years 'dont make sense make sausages' which had no inherent meaning.
As a lover of words and the history of meaning I am also fascinated with what doesn’t have meaning!
It also led me to thinking how idioms within language gain meaning. Anyone could repeat the phrase and it would have no meaning without the story behind it.
Yet many idioms take on a life of their own, so I imagined if this phrase would take on the same life. An unusual phrase meaning 'hurry up' or 'get on with it' that is used generally with the original story forgotten.
A circle of meaning creation.
Certainly my parents could have explained it but then the story would have disappeared ☺
