This is one of the reasons why I love freelancing. You were expected to be independent and responsible for your actions.
If you were slacking off, chances are, you’re gonna lose clients and it will affect you. So you must play your cards right if you want long-term work relationship with them.
Also, freelancing offers more growth than your conventional 9–5/8 hour workdays with insurances, etc. that you might not need.
While it isn’t secured, we also have to take note that there’s no security in the first place. You might get yourself killed one of these days, or the so-called big corporations you were currently working with might shut down though it’s very unlikely. They’re just more stable than freelancing, but your skills won’t be stretched to some extent. I think you’re more secured when you’re skilled than depending on the company itself. You have more freedom and work as you like. But of course, this is not for everyone.
When I started self-employment/freelancing, my skills were tested and my skills growth expands twice as faster than working with stable corporate world.
If you have skills that you can provide services with your clients around the world, I don’t see any reason why you should be afraid of freelancing. I’d rather risk than stay in my comfort zone and work on something I don’t feel passionate at all.
