Week One

Starting off the month strong, I’ve begun to design and develop the process for logging your dreams. The components for certain questions are still a work in progress, however. Once this process is fully implemented, different questions will have different components based on their context, for example, the rating question will show 5 stars which are clickable, the yes/no questions will have selector buttons, etc etc.

Very simple notifications have also been added, allowing for ‘hourly’ reality checks to be sent through (as long as the app is in the background). In the coming weeks, I am going to figure out the planning aspect for the notifications.

What a way to finish the week. With 3 hours of continuous debugging to get the iOS app to archive into IPA so I can deploy and test on Test Flight. React Native is definitely a fickle mistress.

There is absolutely nothing like running an app you made on your own device for the first time, it feels fantastic being able to use it as a user would. Making all the adjustments and fixes so that the app works perfectly on my phone felt like heaven.

Week Two

For me, this week was insanely busy. I was working 12 hour work days for 5 days in a row. I didn’t have my laptop with me to continue with the app, let alone any other work. This week was an absolute write off. I may have to extend this project into overtime because of this oversight.

Week Three

Polish time! I’d begun working on the smaller things that make the app, well, the app. Fixing minor bugs, and creating new ones. I’ve begun to clean up the process of creating dream journal entries and finished the card design. I am having issues with uploading my IPA file to App Store Connect, as my internet connection can’t handle the upload for some reason (slows the entire network), while my workplace wifi hangs at verifying assets. Unfortunately, my week was dominated again by 12 hour work days.

Week Four

Due to the unforeseen circumstances of the last two weeks, I’ve decided it’d be best to add one or two weeks to my schedule. Without these extra weeks, I don’t think I will be able to finish the app in time. I will publish a third bonus article at the end of those two weeks, describing my time and work. The main features I need to pursue is deletion and the ability to update current journal entries.

Followup

I have pushed the app to the in review process, you will soon be able to download. Find the links at https://daydreamapp.co
