Know your exit
Exit 2 — I-75
I recently had my first road trip. ‘Twas an adventure, a journey into a new beginning. While approaching an exit, I felt the urge to capture the moment (in low res) as I felt it was saying something to me.
This is what I was told in that small moment. Nothing ground breaking, just a simple subtle truth, at least for me.
In life, we have to, at times, take roads that are necessary to get us to where we need to go. We’ll see things that we have never seen before, learn things that we might not have, had we gone some other route. We’ll complain about the weather when we might just need to turn the music on and drive safely. We need the road, the road has its purpose and we should enjoy the scenery and make the best of it. Sometimes it’s hard though, with other drivers sharing the road that don’t drive the way you’d like them to :)
There comes a time however when your ultimate destination requires that you leave this road. You could continue driving, but that would just leave you going around in circles to get back to where you need to be, or possibly find another exit that costs you valuable time.
So what do you do? This road has been “good” to you. The exit is coming. Just get off. The road will be filled by other cars. Your car needs to get home to allow your dreams to be actualized. Don’t get off too early and don’t speed down the ramp either. Just identify your exit, slow down, indicate, and move on, to the new road.
A segment from Startup School came back to me then. Interestingly it was done by Balaji S. Srinivasan who is one of the lecturers for a course I started online (Startup Engineering).
