Story of my life

Why do people get so bugged when other people are interested in their culture? My heritage is norse, should I be upset that Marvel hijacked Thor and turned him into a superhero, tainting reverence for his name by turning him into a toy or a costume that looks nothing like the version my Grandfather would speak of? Or perhaps I should be upset that the English “appropriate” his name and use it as a day of the week twisting it, obfuscating its true origin? But I’m not. I’m proud that a little piece of my families great heritage has been picked up and spread all around the world. That every Thursday someone in the English world speaks the name of my ancestors god and I get to remember how awesome my heritage is.

Should “Westerners” be upset that the Japanese have “appropriated” Elvis, punk style, gangster movies, classical music (Seigi Ozawa oppressor!), sun glasses, and hamburgers….oh and trousers…? And not only that, they have taken it all and spun it in new amazing creative ways totally transforming it from it original ‘western’ usage..should the “west” be upset that the Japanese have done amazing things, adding their own twists to “western” culture?

Its when cultures mix like this that new amazing things and experiences are created. I mean God, look at the things Asia has done with cars. We’d be a totally different world without all this awesome “appropriation” going on.

I mean yea they’ll probably fuck it up a little…change it into something that it wasn’t originally…but really, I’m sorry, it’s ok. How awesome is it that someone cares enough about your culture to want to make it a part of their own life…and heaven forbid they do it in their own way.
