Good catch! From how it is described, it seems that they vary the angle at which different beams of light are incident upon the eye in order to give depth to individual projections rather than to provide any sort of differentiation between projections.

However, it does open up the possibility that the display hardware at least may already capable of the sort of flexibility needed to create true depth amongst an array of different objects.
