An effective deterrence (such as recording the officer’s activities) should reduce the incidence of violence.

To your point, recording Police interactions with the public — including the routine day-to-day stuff — could be used as a teaching tool to address the root causes of complaints against the Police; much like effective rehabilitation of prison inmates is better than just incarceration.
