Staying the course

and keeping your sense of humor for the edit.

After the bliss that is MountainFilm came to an end, I decided to stay in Telluride for a bit to continue researching the more informative side of Frame by Frame — the history of media in Afghanistan. I think editing or researching in beautiful places is the key to not loosing your mind. If you can only walk outside for 30 minutes a day, it must be in a place that is visually stunning — hello, Telluride, CO. Thank goodness I have a film fairy godmother (can I say godsister?) that let me housesit. If you know a filmmaker and you have a place they can edit for a bit, consider offering it up. You will be considered a fairy godmother/brother from another mother yourself! What is cooler than that??

Other than the hours spent sleeping or eating, I spent the last five days surrounding myself with a thick and fascinating history of Afghan media. A marathon of reading, writing and browsing over the last few years that turned into a sprint recently.

This morning I walked outside blurry-eyed onto the streets of Telluride for the first time in a while to get a cup of coffee from a stand. Taken aback by the beautiful day, it hurt a bit not to be going on a hike or something. As I walked (zombied) up to the coffee stand, the radio inside the stand played a BBC radio broadcast about Afghanistan…

Sometimes I feel lost in the sea that is making a film, and then the world seems to smirk and wink at me knowingly… and I am able to find my way again.
