The greatest wonder in history (imo) Giza and its great pyramid Sphinx remain to be an area that offer several discoveries and finds. Foremost, recent discoveries have not only enlightened the public on the highly debated methods of construction carried out by the ancient Egyptians. They have also helped unveil structures buried under the sandy desert, creating myths that have covered archaeological wonders, current practices in handling diseases, and if that wasn't enough for one week, our mystic ancient ancestors might've been more medically advanced than we ever imagined. Based on human remains from a skull around 4,000 years ago, there is possible evidence of surgical knowledge, and we can also conclude that cancer was indeed a facet of their society.
The Nile’s Crucial Role in Pyramid Construction
A lost branch of the Nile River has now been made associated with the transportation of stones at the construction site of the Pharaoh tombs in Egypt. Researchers have recently unveiled new information about the existence of the Ahramat branch which was located near the Giza slopes at the time when the pyramid was being built. It is apparent that it could have been a functional waterway, facilitating movement of workers, materials, and supplies. These discoveries raise questions on approaches to pyramid construction, and indeed other facets of engineering, previously believed to have been employed by the ancient Egyptians.
Uncovering Hidden Structures Beneath the Sand
Other features of archaeological interest also remain concealed under the Giza plateau. Archeologists are using ground penetrating radar (GPR) and electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) to discover the existence of concealed structures which are yet to be explored. These techniques have shown an L-shaped plan and a bigger and deeper structure in the west area called the Western Cemetery where royal tombs are normally found buried. The purpose of such structures remains unknown, but scientists believe that there may be archaeological skeletons of the past, for example, the absence of a site in a cemetery. The questions and history are revealed only in part and require further research to be opened after the sand cover.
Ancient Egyptian Medical Practices: Treating Cancer in Antiquity
But perhaps even more shocking, the latest scholarly discovery indicates that ancient Egyptian practitioners had made efforts to practice cancer therapies. The cross-sectional examination of two skulls one male and the other female that are almost thousand years old revealed malignant neoplasms similar to cancer, which have been accompanied by cut marks around the malignant neoplasms suggesting that the surgeons engaged themselves in treating the cancerous tumors. As these treatments are still unknown, this discovery questions the idea that cancer was treated during the ancient times as well as offers information about the medical management of the early civilization.
While many of us understandably believed ancient Egypt was uncovered, this proves that the discoveries are still endless at this point. Ideally, it’s my personal opinion that there are artifacts and remains that one day will change how we look back at history. Whether or not it’s in my lifetime, I still remain optimistic given the considerable growth we’re seeing.
