The point of this blog post is to add a personal and practical point of view of sermons and other biblical teachings, and how it applies or has applied to my life. In short, personal musings.

I had decided to start a blog because I had been encouraged to do so by my mother. I know — it may sound corny, but if I were to name my biggest cheerleader (second to God Himself), it’d be her. The reason behind her encouragement is one of the biggest questions she asks herself as a Christian: How can I be a blessing to others? It’s a question I, personally, never thought to ask, but when it comes to being a disciple of Christ, it’s a necessary one. She’d pointed out to me during our nightly bible studies together that, aside from her, I rarely shared the good news of how God has been good to me throughout the week — to which I’d admitted I didn’t know how. To me, “spreading the word” meant literally going out into the world and enduring hardship in third-world countries at the potential risk of your very life. That is not always the case.

According to Pastor Tony Evans, a favorite of my mother’s and myself, servitude can be broken down into three parts:

  1. Begin where you are: Saying you’ll start tomorrow or when you “get better at it” doesn’t cut it. James 4:14 (NLT) says “How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog — it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.” It’s not promised that you’ll be good immediately, or that it’ll be easy, but what we do now will count later.
  2. Use what you already have: James 1:17 (NIV)“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” God gave us specific gifts for a specific purpose, more than one for some. It could be a talent for something academic, practical, physical, etc. Whatever it is you excel at can be used for the growing of His Kingdom, so there’s no need to worry about not being good enough!
  3. Do what you can: Proverbs 16:3 (NIV) “ Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.” There is only so much we can do as humans, but when we leave the rest to God, what may appear small to us can be great to someone else.

“Spreading the world” can equate to raising a child and teaching them about God and His Word, helping them grow into what God created them to be. It can be using the lovely smile you have to brighten someone’s day, a simple hug, or the kind gesture of letting someone else go first. It can even be writing about your Christian faith. For all we know, we may be the only source of Jesus someone ever interacts with. Why not make it a good one?

Most of my content will be influenced by various people, some in pastoral positions, others in musical, familial, or no position at all, who have put in their input and and how I received it. I’m new to this, but feel free to put your thoughts or questions if you’d like — I am interested in what you say. Until then, you all have a blessed one!
