No, I’m not interested in asking you to “get over it”. I find that disregarding other people’s pain does nothing to resolve it. What I am asking you to do is get past it, otherwise you will NEVER succeed. My personal life list of ills and injustices is far, far longer than yours, but you will never hear about it, and quite frankly no one is interested in listening to it, because EVERYONE has their own.
If you look at everything in the IT world thru the lens of being a woman, then that is how the world will appear: every action, every slight, every bump in the road will be happening to you because you are a woman. For that I am truly sorry, because the other 98% of life, the shit that happens to everyone, will be either missed, misinterpreted, or dwelt on ad infinitum as confirmation of your worldview.
I really have zero problem with women calling out the men and the behaviors that make them uncomfortable, as I believe this is fundamental to human decency and respect. And I have no doubt that negative things happen because you are a woman. I’m equally confident that positive things happen because you are a woman, so do kindly keep your accounting honest. I do not believe that any focus other than that of being a computer professional serving the needs of their clients, users, or customers will be productive or rewarding.
