Getting an internship at NASA can be difficult, but it is not impossible. As someone who has gone through the process, I’m here to help and show you how I managed to get an internship offer for the summer:
Before Application Season:
1. Work on Space Projects
I think this is often overlooked which is why I put it at the top of the list. It is important to show initiative and interest in space through your projects. What do you spend your free time on? Only showing proficiency in coding isn’t sufficient, because there are thousands of other applicants are proficient in it, too. You need to demonstrate your passion for space. …
Will We Ever Reach Extraterrestrial Civilizations?
Are we the only civilization in the Universe? The simple answer to this question is likely no. But how can we quantify the likelihood that we aren’t alone out here? What factors do astronomers evaluate to determine the chances?
This short analysis aims to prove that there are other life forms in the universe that exist, and they may even be more technologically advanced than the human species. …
One of the primary indicators a massive black hole exists at the center of our galaxy is that there’s a stark contrast of stellar orbits in the center of the galaxy compared to the average star. In this analysis, I will measure the how distance from a black hole impacts a star’s orbital period using a regression analysis.
The data file I used to perform this analysis was published by Gillessen, Plewa, and Eisenhauer et. al in 2017; this publication lists attributes of every star near the center of the galaxy monitored over 25 years consecutively. It includes critical data for the analysis, such as a star’s magnitude of brightness, its orbital speed, and distance from the black hole — Sagittarius A*. …
