I think the Italian government should be more strict in this instance. Food waste is a huge problem we’ve come to recognise more and more. We must take all the necessary measures to put the problem under control.

The UK economy alone loses about £23 billion a year to get rid of all the extra food. I can’t believe I’m even saying that. We have so much food we actually pay to have it thrown out while people in third world countries starve to death. According to this infographic on food waste in the UK, we waste about 18 million tons of food every year.

I think Denmark really had a great idea by opening up shops with expired food. I guess some of the food can still be consumed even after the expiration date, so cuddles to Denmark.
