#1 ranked prospect looking to be next great Asian Yankees player

Bridgewater, NJ- During Anthony Volpe’s childhood, the Asian culture was very much around for the top prospect. Volpe, who is half Filipino, inherited his Asian background from his mother’s side. The 21 year old accredits the person and ballplayer he is today towards the massive Asian influence he has received throughout his life.

“I live with my mom, my grandmother and my aunt. They are all Filipino and have given me so much support in everything I do,” Volpe said. “I’ve definitely benefited from living in a Filipino household”.

Although he has never been to the Philippines, Volpe does have desires to one day be able to grow the game over there. He states that he tries to represent his Asian culture and family every time he is playing.

The New York Yankees have not had an Asian player on their roster since Japanese pitcher Masahiro Tanaka, who was on the team during the 2020 short season. More specifically, they have not had a Filipino player on their roster since Clay Rapada in 2012. The current shortstop for the Somerset Patriots is the likeliest option to be the next Asian player for the Bronx Bombers.

MLB pipeline predicts Volpe to reach the majors in 2023.
