Nice story and hopefully some people will be inspired by this.
I also heavily struggled with giving up on caffeine and alcohol, especially because they are drugs that are used socially. But once I found the strength to say “no” I realised, that they did not actually make my life better. Apart from the money I spent on alcohol, I never felt really fresh the next morning after having a few drinks. I then made the decision not to poison myself any more and simply quit, which was a good decision. The temptation is there though, especially when somebody is offering and you do not want to seem rude…
The same goes for coffee. People always feel like they cannot function without coffee, but once you live without it for a couple of weeks, you realise that it does not make such a big difference (unless you drink one cup per week maybe and really feel the caffeine) on a daily basis. It is still hard though to say no to coffee, since I love the smell. But I prefer to function without any products….
Sugar also was difficult to give up. But once you start cutting your sugars it becomes easier, since you become more sensitive to sweetness. Cakes and such are now waaay too sweet for me, which makes it increasingly easy to resist them. Instead I use dates or raisins to sweeten my pancakes if I feel likehaving something sweet!
